Trust Is a Practice, Not a Promise: My Conversation on the Rooted2Thrive Podcast
Trust Is a Practice, Not a Promise.
I joined Rochelle Peterson-Ansari on the Rooted2Thrive podcast to talk about what that looks like for leaders, and the one question I hope you'll carry into every interaction.
Trust Is Built in the Next Interaction
People use the word trust all the time. Very few of us stop to define it, and even fewer stop to ask whether what we're about to say or do will build it or break it.
That question was at the heart of my recent conversation with my friend Rochelle Peterson-Ansari on the Rooted2Thrive: Conversations That Elevate Our Humanity podcast. Our episode, Trust as Practice: Building Trust in Every Interaction (Season 7, Episode 77), is now live.
Rochelle and I go back many years, and reconnecting with her as I approach my 30th year in business felt like a gift. She asked thoughtful questions, and I opened up more than I expected to.
What We Explored
Trust is deeply personal. Each of us needs different things before we're willing to trust someone. Yet leaders can build shared practices that make trust visible, measurable, and actionable. In the episode, Rochelle and I talk about:
Why trust means something different to every person, and what that means for leaders
The four behaviors that build trust, and why the order you practice them matters
How leaders with the best intentions can erode trust without realizing it
How one divided executive team went from silence to real collaboration
What to do first if your team doesn't trust you as much as you thought
How to create a culture where disagreement doesn't turn into distrust
One Question to Carry With You
If you take one thing from our conversation, I hope it's this question to ask before your next interaction:
Is what I'm about to say or do going to build trust or destroy trust?
Every interaction gives us that choice.

If this episode has you wondering how much trust exists on your leadership team, let's talk. Trust can be measured, and it can be built.
